Minnesota Afterburners radio controlled model aircraft club AMA Charter #5457
About
The Minnesota Afterburners Club was founded in 2019 with the help of Big Sky Hobby in Eagan, MN. We encourage you to patronize Big Sky Hobby for all your modeling needs. Some of us used to fly at a farm field field in Northfield, MN. which was owned by a jet hobbyist. He was a well known scale jet modeler and a contest winner. His neighbor in the next farm over used to walk over to visit and watch us fly. So when owner of that farm moved out of state, the neighbor suggested we build a field on his farm. So we scouted a location and did just that. We have a 625ft North-South geotex runway, a wind sock, a grill, table, potti, and some airplane stands. Being a young club, we still have some infrastructure to put in. We do own a great Scag Tiger Cat zero turn mower that cuts through anything. One awesome feature of our field is afternoon flying has the sun behind you, making it easier to see your creations. We call our club MNAB (Minn-Nab) for short, and we encourage you to fly anything you want to bring from foamies to high-end jets. We are NOT just a jet club. As a matter of fact, MNAB has many members who are glider hobbyists. We all operate cooperatively out of the same field. The rules are pretty much just common sense. Our location is convenient because we are a short distance off I-35 about ½ hour south of the Twin Cities, in Northfield, MN. Take the CR-19 exit and head east. We are an AMA chartered field, and we have applied to become a FRIA now that the AMA & FAA process has started. Upon approval, no one will need remote ID to fly at MNAB. If this sounds attractive, please visit our membership page. If you have questions about MNAB’s FRIA, contact our Secretary, Rusty Freeman. See the membership page for contact info.
